Micro Discectomy

Micro Discectomy is available through Sports Medicine North at a published cash price, paid when you book.

Microdiscectomy, also known as microdecompression or microdiskectomy, is a minimally invasive surgical procedure performed to alleviate nerve compression in the spinal column caused by a herniated or ruptured disc. This condition, often referred to as a slipped or bulging disc, can lead to pain, numbness, and weakness in the legs or arms. During a microdiscectomy, a small incision is made, and a surgical microscope or magnifying lenses are used to access the affected disc with precision. The surgeon then removes a portion of the herniated disc material that is pressing on the spinal nerves, thereby relieving the associated symptoms. Microdiscectomy aims to preserve as much of the healthy disc tissue as possible and typically results in less disruption to surrounding structures compared to traditional open surgery.
